Marmot Resole FAQ's

  • Q: What is your turnaround time?
  • A: Shoes received by Sunday will be finished and sent out on Friday. Shoes received after Sunday are finished and sent out on Friday of the following week. Rush jobs MAY be possible for an extra charge. Call to confirm.
  • Q: When should I have my shoes resoled?
  • A: You can damage or destroy your shoes by waiting too long to have them repaired. The best time is when the sole is almost worn through, but before there is any damage to the rand (the rubber running around the upper part of the shoe). If the rand is in good condition, only a half-sole is necessary. If the rand is worn too thin, then a rand repair will be necassary in addition to a resole. If you wear through the rubber and any part of the shoe leather, a resole may not be possible.
  • Q: Do I need a half-sole or a full-sole?
  • A: In order to preserve the original construction of your shoe, we generally replace rubber only where it is worn. Climbing shoes wear predominantly in the front, so a half-sole is usually sufficient. If the heel is worn, we will repair the heel rand and replace the full sole.
  • Q: What kind of rubber do you recommend?
  • A: We recommend 5.10 Stealth C4 because it is the stickiest rubber available. We also carry La Sportiva XSV as a harder, more durable alternative.
  • Q: What rubber thickness do you recommend?
  • A: We will return your shoes to their original thickness unless you specify otherwise. Typically, sporty shoes and slippers are resoled with 3mm rubber, while less technical shoes and crack boots are resoled with 5mm rubber.
  • Q: Do you guarantee your work?
  • A: We guarantee all work for up to three months or until the shoes are worn through and in need of another resole. If you are not satisfied with our work, please return your shoes with the receipt. We will correct the problem at no charge, pay any shipping costs, or give you a full refund.
